RAMANANDA BANDHOPADHAYA

Ramananda Bandyopadhyay, born in West Bengal, is an artist whose work exudes a lyrical and romantic essence. He is a representative of the Bengal School of Art and earned his Diploma in Fine Art from Viswa Bharati University, Santiniketan, in 1957, drawing inspiration from the artistic legacy of Nandalal Bose.

Bandyopadhyay's art is profoundly influenced by his religious upbringing, with mythology featuring prominently in his narratives. He is also recognized for his depictions of the everyday lives of middle-class Indian families, infusing grace and beauty into their stories. What unifies Bandyopadhyay's body of work is his consistent use of colors. He has earned the prestigious National Academy Award from the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi four times between 1961 and 1980. In 2000, he was honored with the Abanindranath Puraskar by the Government of West Bengal, a testament to his enduring contribution to the world of art.
